The UCSF RBC lab is recognized for delivering high-quality testing services for research studies in a timely fashion and has established strong working relationships with medical and research professionals at institutions across the country.
The RBC Lab offers a variety of laboratory services for basic and translational research studies.
The previous executive director of the laboratory, Frans Kuypers, PhD, together with UCSF hematologist, Elliott Vichinsky, MD, have had a long-standing record in hemoglobinopathy and red blood cell research. The laboratory specialist, Eric Soupene, PhD, joined in 2004 and excels in basic research in molecular biology, protein chemistry, as well as protein activity analysis for clinical studies. In addition to providing laboratory testing services, our team is highly experienced in the design and management of (clinical) research studies. This includes advice on assays to be used, collection, processing, storage, and analysis of biospecimens, and data management for clinical trials.
